An Unexpected Miracle: Employment Opportunity from an Almost Unlikely Source

One of the first few weeks we were living here in Santa Maria, California, I had been reading the Santa Barbara Sun newspaper of all things that I picked up from our local post office because I saw a picture of man with a trumpet and a woman at a piano dressed up all nicely. I wanted to read the story from the headline: The Music Makers.

I read the article and found out that these two people, Davis Reinhert and Sylvia Jiang, were the co-founders of Muffin Music and that they were hosting a free concert in Santa Maria at the Unity of Santa Maria church.

I had two goals, to meet them, and to take Sarah on a surprise date night in the area. We enjoyed a night out on the town and enjoyed their great music, a lot of which was composed by Davis himself.

After the concert, we went up to them and we met with them, Davis first, then Sylvia. As we were talking to Davis we found out that his company goes around the Los Angeles Area and mainly the central coast extending music services to all those in the area. I told him that I was a newly hired music teacher and composer, and that if my time at Patterson Rd. lasted long, then I would want him to come perform for our school. He took down my information and said that we should connect in the future.

He must have been impressed by me, because (after the school year had ended and I no longer had my job) he gave me a call and asked me if I had musical instruments from the school that I could potentially let him borrow for his summer program. I told him the unfortunate news, that I no longer had my job because it was a temporary teaching position until I could get my credential and I couldn't help him. But then, after thinking, I told him that I could get him in contact with the people I know in this area that are musical (mostly teachers in OUSD).

I didn't think much of the conversation.

However, on Monday of this week I got a call out of the blue, from a friend of Davis's. He tells me he works in the Santa Ynez School District and that the elementary school is looking for a music teacher. It's part-time (which is what I want so that I can work on other things in my life), TK-8, I get to pick which three days I want to come in, and the class size is 20ish students per class.

I was in shock. This is my dream job, and Heavenly Father provided a way for it to come right into my shoulders, and all because I reached out to and met Davis one of the first night's we were here.

Funny thing is I didn't even write about it, that happened April 11, exactly a week after we moved here.
