The Trefflichs Invite Us to the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles on Kirsten's Birthday

The Trefflichs graciously invited us to go with them to the California Mid-State Fair in Paso Robles (pronounced Ro-buls) on Kirsten's birthday. This was our first time there and we learned about Cuesta Grade (which is a mountainous climb and descent to Paso Robles).

Before we drove there, we stopped in San Luis Obispo (or SLO), and stopped at the Firestone Grill, where everyone share different hamburgers and salads and sandwiches. On the way up, we were watching Happy Gilmore 2 with Adam Sandler (who is a household favorite and which had just come out that day). We had really good speakers in the car for the movie.

We arrived and after walking through the gates (accidentally sneaking in some contraband), we started walking through the fair. We walked through my favorite reason for going to fairs since a kid: going through the warehouses that have both the prize winners of the fair's contests, and the warehouses that have people selling things that you really don't need but want since they are so cool.

Kirsten (my sister-in-law) stopped at a ring shining station where there were people shining rings, and it was amazing seeing all the dirt get washed off. We then tried my ring, but the seller's first question to me was "Is this costume jewelry?" Embarassing.

We also passed by free therapy in the form of red light wands that heal through rays of light and some pulsating energy on our backs. It wasn't a very relaxing experience. We then got our shoes (or boots) shined for free.

Something that was super cool about this particular day at the fair was that lead guitarist from the Eagles, Don Felder, was performing. Tickets were upwards of 40 dollars a pop, so we didn't go, but it was awesome to hear it in the distance and make some wagers on which Eagles song they were going to play next ("Hotel California third"/it was actually their closer). I found out later that Sarah had wanted to take me to this concert at one time, because I am a massive Eagles fan. But I was happy nonetheless. Someday, though.

We walk to where the fair animals are kept for showing and we saw goats, pigs, and cows. We found out that they just had the auction for fair animals.

We then walked to the section of the fair that had the rides. Took some pictures through a polaroid picture cutout, and then split up. Sarah and I walked to the nearest food place. However, on the way, we found Annabelle and Danielle doing the Supreme Scream ride.

At the nearest Philly Cheese Steak place we got some loaded Chicken, Bacon, Ranch Fries. We ate them and took a small portion to the family.

Then on our way out of the park, we found a small performance of someone singing Taylor Swift songs on stage, and danced to a few of the songs, including Enchanted

And that was our night folks. (after a ride home).
