The Boys' Piano Recital and SLO Symphony and Lobby Concert
On Nov. 21st we were invited to go watch the boys' piano recital. They did a good job. They have to play a hymn, as well as a piece of their choice. It was funny, because at the end, Margaret (the majority of the students' teacher) got up and called me up to give the prayer, only, she didn't call me Brother John Gonzales, she called me Brother John Trefflich. David noticed and corrected her and knowing she was talking about me I just got up and said the prayer anyway.
Later that night, we were invited to Marcus, Ben, and David's Lobby Concert. They played the songs that they had been practicing a lot in the morning as we would get up. They played a song that they hadn't practiced as much. It was a song from K-pop Demon Hunters. I thought they sounded good, but David was unhappy that they played that one, especially as the closing.
We then watched the SLO Symphony concert up until the intermission. Their concert was called California Dreamin' and they played a Violin Concerto by Erich Korngold. Another thing that was funny is that I asked Kirsten if I could bring in my tablet to follow along in the score for that song in particular. She told me to ask the Lobby people. I did and they said yes. Well, when I sat down for the concert, I was on the edge of our family's seats, and I sat next to an elderly man who was not in our family and when he saw my tablet and what I was going to use it for, he perked up and we could tell he wanted to follow along. So I shared my tablet with him.
As we were leaving during intermission, we ran into a homemade slot machine where there was a board covering 3 different people who, when the bell rang, would choose 1 of like 4 instruments to pick up and if you got all 3 as the same instrument, you would get a prize. The boys tried it and I tried it. It was fun, but I didn't get all three. I did, however, get a SLO Symphony sticker.
After that, we went to Blast 825 Brewery to celebrate. Kirsten and I share nachos.
