Coastal Voices Retreat and Start of Season

I went to a weekend retreat with Coastal Voices at the Harris Edna Valley Barn in the San Luis Obispo countryside. I got a ride from Marianne, as well as 2 other women. Dr. Sean Abel came to give a clinic to the choir. One of the things he did was have us blow into straws into a cup quarter sized full of water and sing a scale on pitch. I did my best to be amenable to what was going on around me, because plans changed from what I thought, and all in all, it was not too hard the things that I needed to do at the retreat. However, as we went through all 10+ songs we are doing, and we listened to the recordings of them, I realized that I have my work cut out for me, especially with a select few songs. One is a song by Pinkzebra. And it was all rock. I was able to sit with a few of the members of the choir during lunch, which was sandwiches with some salad and chips. By the end of the retreat, I was extremely tired. I had little to contribute on the ride home because I was so tired.

On the Monday after the retreat, we had our very first rehearsal, and it turned out to be pretty fun. I enjoyed it and we mostly went over parts in sectionals, and I had to play accompaniment and parts for 3 songs. In sectionals, Juliann and I went into the small room with the lower voices and went over their parts to some songs. Leslie helped out with the other sectionals. I do have to practice my music as best I can over the next 4 months. I am sure I will have plenty of opportunity to do so.
