Birthday Beach Day at Avila Beach
Last week, Sarah and I were invited to go to Avila Beach for my niece, Danielle's, birthday. She got to hang out with her friends, and we got to hang out with the family. We had the local pizza (a supreme, cheese, and Hawaiian pizza), some soda, and fruits and candy. We enjoyed sitting under the blue canopy.
The four things (besides eat) that I wanted to do were 1. walk on the nearby pier, 2. go in the ocean for some time, 3. walk on the shore, and 4. read to the sounds of the crashing waves. We were able to do one, two and four no problem.
As we were walking on the pier with Ben, we were able to see David and Marcus trying to catch waves on the boogie boards. They did pretty well. So much so, that Ben who was feeling sick, felt the need to join them. We also were able to see that fishermen had set so many fishing poles at the end of the pier.
I have some reservations about going into the ocean because I don't feel like I know how to swim very well, and because I am not as familiar with the beach as Sarah is. But it was quite fun to go in the water and just wade while we talked and watched the waves crash upon us and others.
We didn't walk on the shore, because we were thinking we would be leaving soon, but we did read the first few chapters of The Da Vinci Code and then do some window shopping at the shops on Avila Beach. We were able to find some playing cards and put it on the wish list for when we are more able to purchase the cards (I love collecting cards from all the places we've visited, and because a family I knew growing up [the Knudsens] collected cards and also played with them). We also found some swings and a slide and did some playing around.
It was a fun time, all in all! Happy Birthday, Danielle!
Looks so fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks, this was a fun first outing to the beach.
DeleteDid you catch any thing besides a sunburn
ReplyDeleteFortunately I did not catch a sunburn. I definitely need to learn to fish.
