I Got the Job and Impending Adventure
Well, Ms. Flick said that I would hear back after the weekend about the job in Orcutt. So on Monday, I was wondering if I was going to hear anything about it. Monday was St. Patrick's Day and also Sarah was scheduled to leave for Minnesota that day to hang out with Elizabeth for a week. As I was driving to the airport to take Sarah, after we had dropped off food stuffs with LauraMae, I realized that I didn't have any green on, which could've been bad at a music school. I dropped Sarah off and drove to GSM where I taught some lessons. And as it was approaching my break time, around three, I noticed that I had received an email from Megan. In it she said that they are ready to offer me the job as a permanent substitute up until June 6th at 30 dollars an hour 3 days a week W-F from 7:30am-2:15pm. I was elated. I forwarded the email to Sarah, who was on a plane to Minnesota and she replied when she got off the plane “YOU GOT THE JOB!” I could hardly handle myself and everything that this meant, because Sarah and I had talked about what would happen if they couldn't offer me the actual teaching job, whether or not I should work as substitute.
So I took my break, and fortunately, Sarah was already in Minnesota off the plane at the time. And we talked about how soon I should make the decision. I prayed and after seeing the number 7 in the number 70%, I decided to make the decision in 7 hours, which both was a little time with the fact that I was working until 8, and also because that was quick because of them needing an answer soon. But it felt right.
So, when I got home I put some meatloaf in the oven, and proceeded to pray about it after talking to Sarah for a little while deciding I needed to pray. I felt strongly that this was a time to trust in God and rely on His arm. And I told him I needed all the help I could get in the process if this was to be the case, that we would be moving to Santa Maria in a matter of weeks, leaving all our friends and our good job behind. But I felt like this could happen if I trusted. If we trusted. So I called Sarah and told her, at 10 pm, after a walk around the Catholic Church, that yes I did feel like we should take the JOB.
Next morning, which was yesterday, we had to make a lot of phone calls and a lot of purchases. I called Megan Flick and told her that I would like to take the job and when the soonest she thought I'd be able to start was, and she said as soon as possible, really. I told her I would put in my two week notice today. She said that if I could get in, we could feel out the paperwork, get my fingerprints done, and get my TB test done. I told her I would be there Thursday and/or Friday to get this done (after we had made it clear that I could get there from AZ in that time).
So, we called Kirsten and told her the details. And she gave us money to purchase the plane flight to LAX and the money to go from LAX to Santa Maria on Train and Bus. And Sarah and I purchased the tickets for all of that, discussing how we were going to do it all.
Then I had to do the hard thing and call GSM and give Augustina and Brandon my two week notice, as well as ask for Saturday off, so we could do said plane flight there and back. Fortunately, they were both very happy for me (albeit a little stringent on the fact that I didn't give them two week notice for this time off).
I had to go to work that day, and it was difficult; I had to tell each of my students and their parents that I was leaving. Most took it well.
So, fast forward to today. I am sitting at the airport at Phoenix Sky Harbor. Sarah's in Minnesota, and I'm moving us half way across the world. JK. I will be on a plane in less than two hours to LA, then I have to catch a bus to Union Station, and a train to Santa Barbara, i think, and then a bus to Santa Maria, where Kirsten and David will pick me up.
It's all just a huge whirlwind. A Crazy whirlwind adventure. But I'm excited for this adventure. And so is Sarah.
